T-80

First built in 1978, the T-80 is second only in power to the awesome T-90. The suspension of this vehicle consists of rubber coated wheels, the drive sprocket is in the vehicles rear. The engine exaust is in the rear of the engine hull. The commander's coupla is on the right side of the turret. The gunner's hatch is on the left side. The driver's hatch is in the middle of the hull front. There is a dozer blade on the front hull beneath the glacis. There is a five barrelled smoke launcher on the left side of the turret, and a four barrelled launcher on the right side. The T-80 is able to fire the AT-8 Songster ATGM, just as the T-64. Six missiles are usually carried. The rear of the vehicle is able to carry two additional 200 liter drums for increased range, both of which can be jettisoned. The gun is automatically reloaded, thus relinquishing the need for the fourth crew member. The vehicle is NBC sealed, and is capable of imidiate limited submersion. The turret front is fitted with reactive armour blocks.

The T-80 U first appeared in 1989 and features a number of enhancements. It is able to fire the newer AT-11 Sniper laser-guided ATM. The engine has been replaced in favour of a more fuel efficient and powerful turbine engine. The commander's machine gun is now able to fire via remote control. Four eletrically operated 81mm smoke discharges on either side of the turret can now fire in any direction. The turret front armour is equipped with a second generation reactive armour blocks. The Turret roof has been provided with additional protection against overhead anti-tank weapons. The laser designator is located in front of the commander's coupla, well protected in an armoured box. Rubber elements have been fitted beneath the front glacis to provide additional protection against mines and HEAT warheads. NBC sealing has been improved, as the armour now is coated with a radiation absorption substance. The driver's seat is now suspended from the hull roof, protecting the driver from possible injury. Lastly, a special camoflague pain coats the tank, distorting it's appearance in IR wavebands.
