Two years before the outbreake of the war Sweden bought 160 Leopard II (Strv 121), 610 MT-LB (Pbv 401), 350 BMP-1 (Pbv 501) and 15 Bergepanzer from Germany 1994. Sweden was not fast enough to use their option to buy more waritems from Germany before they broke the deal and started to gear up her economy to produce more Armor for the German Army. At the same time there was a group of Engineers that looked into the problem of upgrade remaining armor to new standards.
