Hkp 9A - AH-1S/Step II
SIDENOTE ON CHOOISE OF DESIGNATION :
Why a chooise of AH-1 as the Hkp 9 ? The answer is very interresting indeed. The
triology "Operation Garbo", that is about a soviet invasion on sweden, you can
find reading that USA happened to offer AH-1 helicopters to Sweden 1979 for a
bargain but the swedish goverment didn't buy the helicopters becouse of politics.
I decided that I follow the RUMINT about the swedish AH-1 helicopters by saying
that they are called Hkp 9. In real life Hkp 9 is the MBB/BO-105.
The Hkp-9A was originally the 98 AH-1S of step 2 production. Originally only to
carry TOW missiles and not able to fire rockets. The Hkp-9A did undergo in the 80's
a modernization program to be able to fire 2.75" rockets. Sweden bought 51 HKP9's.
