Basically, back in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's, some public safety officials and amateur radio operators used a separate alternator mounted on their engines to generate 110 - 120 volts A/C to power appliances directly from their cars. AMEN You've got the most powerful armed forces in the world, you're the most industrialized and wealthiest country, Agreed but you're able to just turn your back on innocent people dying somewhere else because they aren't American? And won't even loss any sleep about it. What the FUCK is wrong with you? An Albanian is no less important than an American. Nothing, and depends on your point of view. We are all humans and you should be willing to look out for the less fortunate people who need protecting. Why should I or any other American stick our necks out for anyone else? I believe that the action taken by NATO in Kosovo was morally right. It's unfortunate that the American government decided to use it as little more than a publicity statement. The hypocrisy of intervening in Kosovo but not in Rwanda is mind-boggling Agreed, but I don't feel that US should have been in either place. Also, just as a side. Whenever you see NATO, or UN, you should read US. At least there were Canadian troops in Rwanda at the time of the genocide there, though because the U.S. and other countries were unwilling to contribute peacekeepers as well, our troops were powerless to stop the massacres. On this I will reserve comment as I haven't done any research on the Rwanda incident. it ain't worth the deaths of at the most maybe a few hundred good ole american boys to save a million people, is it? It isn't worth the death of 1 American. And I love how you're just so willing to blame the government for all your problems. Your government is not the root of them, not by any stretch. It's your damn corporations, who have succeeded in subverting your government and populace and are now attempting to do the same to the rest of the world. But you're unwilling to see that. Food for thought. Thank You. You're happy to blame ole Billy for all your problems, call him names because he got caught having a bit of an affair (and a pretty pathetic one at that) while in office. Ignoring the fact that the same is suspected of 'great leaders' like Kennedy. While I would love to be able to pin the failure of the goverment on Comrade Clinton, it was in shambles before he got there. This list is about Twilight2000, so can you please keep your misguided right-wing ideologies out of the discussions from now on. They have nothing to do with any of the topics and only serve to distract from anything of value that you actually might be attempting to contribute. Agreed, that is why this is my last post on the topic. It's one of the best works of military history I've ever seen, because it covers _both_ the political and the military history quite well (and usually, historians that do one aren't very good at the other). Davies usually does general history (his two-volume _God's_Playground_ is the standard history of Poland in English), but his military analysis is top-notch, and the maps are the best I've ever seen. He also did an earlier article on the Battle of Warsaw. Strategy & Tactics #156 had an article on the war to accompany its issue game, _White_Eagle_Eastward_, which I also highly recommend (easy to learn and quick-playing, but accurately simulates this very strange war--indeed, the things that people complain about in the game, like no ZOC's, actually reflect the way the real war went)--and the article has a bibliography, though I think the only comprehensive book is the one described above. The twisted social logic that leads a Serb to justify killing an Albanian, or a Hutu a Tutsi, or an Israeli a Palestinian, or even that which lets the Chinese military roll a tank over a student dissident is not by any stretch of the human imagination the same logic that allows a rational and educated American citizen to question the moral basis on which the US has somehow become required and expected to schlep our boys all over the damn planet to put out regional and cultural brush fires that have been smoldering for centuries. All thing in themselves not too useful but with a little imagination they may be able to get some vehicals repaired. I did this and the guys just thought it was cool when they finally put it all together and figured it out. Granted the armor is not as thick on the ww2 or vietnam era stuff but it still carries guns and you dont have too walk. (we do have an ex grunt and he would prefer to walk, go figure?!) Hell everyone I knew personally would rather ride than walk. The museum contained mosty WW2 stuff that had already been restored but had been over looked and none of the stuff had any ammo any ways. The battle sceen was a recent one that the group had to take out some stragglers/ surivors. A battle between two third rate units with reserve equipment. ( soviet and US troops). Who were fighting over the recently abandoned repair yard near by. Well one of the interesting vehicals the came up with was the mounting of a light antitank gun in the back of a LAV-25 that had its turret blown off making it a sort of self propelled gun. They ar presently doing the same thing to a half track. They got an old T-34/85 up and running. A towed field gun was of the same ammo type with the third rate troops. They turned a halftrack into a machine gun carrier. Mostly what they have to draw on is WW2 afvs and vehicals, third reate soviet troop equipment. You guys have any creative ideas or thoughts to this? Thanks guys and once agian sorry for the little altercation/ flame with the socialists. I believe we can/should not get into every conflict in the world, the Canadian government has no bloody right to get into conflict and then cry uncle, As far as Rwanda is concerned, It was within the power of the Canadian Military to divert that disaster in the short term. The CANADIAN government deemed it not do able, for many legitimate reasons which I will not explore, this being a Twilight 2000 Forum. The bottom line is that if the Hutu and Tutsi want to butcher each other, they will do so, sooner or later, just DON'T you dare attempt to KILL my FRIENDS and fellow Americans in the process for your ideological fantasies. Snake Eyes, Socialist nanny state?? -- This is news to me, however the government is overbearing here and a tax revolt is a possible situation. I would suggest you leave the Country bashing to the monkeys, it does not become you. I plan to put some of those up soon as well. Inverters have been around for a long time as well, I have some plans to build one which date from the 1960's at least in one of my ham radio books. I think I've seen a few for sale in my 1960 Spiegel Spring/Summer catalog. I like to collect old catalogs, lot of neat stuff and ideas. Getting back to the inverters, I think the one you can build yourself, I'm not sure if you can run things like record players and other motorized equipment that uses the 60 cycles (50 cycles for most non-North Americans) as a base to keep the motors at the right speed unless there is a regulator to keep it at that standard. I have a good pic of the first portable, battery powered, Philco transistor TV in a 1960 Spiegel Spring/Summer catalog for good measure. I figure since we are discussing consumer items, well...... Just kidding. B-) Seriously, I said my piece on the matter so it's time to move on. BTW, does your can opener slice, dice, and plays 8-Tracks as well? B-) Sorry couldn't resist again, I guess it is all the late night UHF TV watching I did in with all the K-Tel and Ronco commercials that did it to me when I was a kid. B-) Chuck, who thinks we need some humor.
