People all over the world have fought each other simply because the other person was a member of a different group. Religion is one way people distinguish themselves, and it happens to be the way that's most important in the Balkans, but language, culture, looks, and even more subtle things have been used in places. >Do you see the irony between religion and war (It is very difficult have one >without the other)? >I would welcome any input on this thought. So no, religion in itself isn't the root of the problem, and waving a magic wand to get rid of it wouldn't eliminate group identities. If you're really, honestly interested in this whole issue of group conflict, I recommend you read Donald Horowitz's _Ethnic_Groups_in_Conflict_ (1985); it's nearly 800 pages long, but it's available in paperback. Actually, during last weeks session I used my laptop, I had character sheets in Word (now I don't have to tip characters off by asking what their observation skill is) along with information on the current adventure. I used Photoshop for maps. This week I did the same things, but left a monitor on the table (the laptop has the VGA out on the back that can be turned on with a button above the keyboard). I would turn the vga out on to show the players maps. Each character had their own layer named after their character with a blue dot on it (bright blue if they were alive and going, dark blue if they were incapacitated [only one character needed it]). Enemies were red dots, bright or dark. If the characters could not see an enemy i would just hide the layer. I also used the sounds from Rainbow Six on amplified speakers. It worked real well except for photoshop which is very slow on the old laptop i have, I am working on something similar for WinRPA (where you can move bitmaps around on a map and hide them and also associate them with a text file for a character or something along those lines). The sounds were fun too, you play the sound of an AK firing and all the players literally jump under the table. And if one gets hit just kick him in the shin under the table to get the desired owwww! :) Also I have my t2k webpage on crosswinds.net now. http://www.crosswinds.net/san-francisco/~slugman/t2k/t2k.html - -- ([-[Peter Vieth]-) (-[fitek@ix.netcom.com]-) (-[http://www.netcom.com/~fitek]-) *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 10:42:01 PDT From: "Brandon Cope" Subject: OICW (again) Though it's development time would have to be compressed to fit any (even prototypes) into a T2K campaign, this seems to be a fairly "nifty" weapon to drop into a party. Please note this is from an Australian Army point of view and not a US/Euro view. Now I assume you are interested in the actual MASH unit rather than the RAP (Regimental Aid Post) that would be located in a rear echelon of an infantry battalion. The MASH would therefore be located to the rear of the infantry battalion rear echelons, this may be close or well to the rear depending upon the tactical situation. As with the majority of forces at least within the Aust army the MASH would have a perimeter usually maintained by infantry soldiers that are resting from front line combat and also MP's. The MP's are normally responsible for movements into and out of the perimeter. If you look at the mash unit itself, you can include; 1) Accommodation (tents etc for officers and enlisted). 2) Field Hospital (This can be fixed for a more permanent MASH or just Tents). 3) Stores (both medical and munitions). 4) Motor pool (The vehicles can vary depending on size). MP's - Jeeps with pintle mounted MG's Medical - Ambulances Infantry - Jeeps and other various IMV's (Infantry Mobility Vehicles) 5) Provision for Airlifts - Helo's 6) Mess Facilities 7) Disposal Area - Garbage Dump / Sewerage 8) Depending upon the proximity to the front - Dug in Positions (MG Pits) I hope these help with your ideas. I've probably missed a few things out but I'm sure someone else with be able to add to this list. There are numerous things / areas that can be added depending upon the size of the Units it services eg Brigade/Battalion/Company etc. Other things that you may wish to add could be the provision of Engineers, Dental, Logistics, Artillery (Coverage) or proximity to a firebase, Proximity to communications or the types of communications present at the MASH (Large amounts of Tx's attract enemy fire), The presence of ECM units and Battery Locater units. Well all the best hope it helps as I said. I visited your site last night and see that your PBE-M campaign is full. I was wondering if you might consider letting me run a few NPCs. I am a 37 y.o. gamer. I have refereed T2K and Traveller since they came out, and I now use the TNE/T2K2.2 rules exclusively. Now I'm not suggesting that you use any of my submitted actions as written, but instead use them for ideas as to what your NPC(s) may consider as a possible options. I come to T2K2.2 from both a war gamers and a ref's point of view: so if you want a military trained (but dumb) warlord, or a ruthless (but smart) gang-banger, I can play both. If you have an idea of what you want, but you have not fleshed them out, I can do that too. Let me know. No. It never reached publication. Yes it did. East Europe Sourcebook by Craig Sheeley Product number 2017, price 14.00 (US dollars) ISBN 1-55878-163-3 Copyright 1994 Back cover reads; " Information is vital to any military campaign. Withput it, armies blindly wander without real objectives, blundering into the enemy by chance, with no opportunity for advance planning or preparation. The East Europe Sourcebook for Twilight: 2000 gives you the information you need to know about the central theater of the Twilight War. East Europe was, without a doubt, the "center stage" of the Twilight War. It was in Eastern Europe that the armies of every major belligerent met; it was in Eastern Europe that the war lasted the longest; and it was in Eastern Europe where the devastation of war was greatest. The East Europe Sourcebook provides a chapter on each of the nations of the region, giving a short summary of the nation's history, geography, and ethnic make-up. The state of each nation as of the year 2000 is described, and its military forces plotted on an individual situation map. Nations covered include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, the Czech and Slovak Republics. Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, and the splintered remains of the former nation of Yugoslavia. More than 30 military vehicles are detailed, illustrated, and described in game terms, including the major vehicles used by the nations of the region, all fully updated to Twilight: 2000, version 2.2 The vehicle pages concentrate on the non-Russian members of the Warsaw Pact, covering Romanian, Yugoslavian, Czech, Hungarian, and Polish military vehicles ranging from the Hungarian FUG scout car to the Romanian TR-85 main battle tank. If that weren't enough, the East Europe Sourcebook also includes a detailed fullcolored map of Eastern Europe, and two short adventures set in the region. It's moved location, the old site will link you into the new one. The new address you should use is http://visitweb.com/twilight2000 I've detailed some encounters I run for my group and there's some nice graphics on it now. I've finally got my hands on a scanner. I've had some feedback on the home rules section so that'll grow in a few days. Thanks again to all those who volunteered for the Resource List. The new members are on it now. Fair enough I think. The question I've got is how do you lot think you can fire it. At present I've got a player dropping to the ground to use the bipod or resting it on a convenient bit of cover. Can you fire it standing up? Can you fire it from a crouch? All opinions welcome. I'm assuming that your aforementioned PC is armed with a M60 GPMG (the M60E1 version). The weapon has a large forearm assembly and is equiped with a shoulder strap. This helps stabilize the weapon when fired from the hip in the standing position. There is no problem while crouched. A strong operator can even shoulder and fire the weapon like a rifle. - -Billy Bob *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 21:32:17 EDT From: Calibur1@aol.com Subject: Looking To Buy I'm looking for an on-line store that sells out-of-print Twilight:2000 materials.
