Note the .de. :-) And historical threads probably won't get anywhere unless we agree to make a time travel to save a couple million lifes. :-) Naah, really, to unite Germany you need to be named Bismark. Evil warlords will be there, probably, but without the infrastructure (radio, phone, or at least fast messengers riding on roads/railways; agriculture; weapons & ammunition/clothing/ gear/... production) you cannot build an empire. And even Bismark had the infrastructure, it was 'just' a political problem to unite the independent warlords^Wkings and counts and so on. You'd have to remember though that the general populace has little access to weapons: You'd have to be a soldier, police man, armed guard, hunter, member of a shooting club, ... to have acces legally. Of course you could have access illegally (russian soldiers selling weapons up to tanks, ...). If you want have fun, go and make the swiss angry: Their soldiers have their weapons at home. - -Wolfgang - -- PGP 2 welcome: Mail me, subject "send PGP-key". After a while all 7.62mm NATO sniper rifles have the same range, not very reallistic. See for info on ammo/rifle ranges. So rifle rounds are unaffected up to: 5.56mm NATO 600 metres 7.62mm NATO 800 metres (better for M118LR?) 7.62mm Bloc 600 metres 0.300 Winchester Magnum 1000 metres 0.308 Lapua 1200 metres 0.50 BMG 1600 metres (Maybe less effective range, greater maximum range) Maximum range is 1.5 times above effective range. The rifle used and skill of shooter reduces the maximum effective round range. I'm thinking if the range is greater than the effective round range, the shot is a level more difficult. I'm still trying to come up with ideas for rifle modifiers and shooter skill (inspired by the Challenge magazine article on snipers/battlesight). I'd still like to use close/medium/long/extreme ranges. I'm also thinking of having modifiers for scope magnification/quality. Round performance at different ranges would also be taken into account (different damage and penetration). All while trying to keep it simple.... Comments, ideas? (long) Hi, bootboy! Would you mind not sending the ms-tnef format to the mailing list? It triples the size of your message (and people hav to pay for download time and phone costs (jep, even local calls). Apart from that, many people won't have the software (or even the hardware - --- think Macingtosh, Sun, Silicon Graphics, HP, VMS, AIX, IRIX) to interpret that format. I allowed myself to reformat your text since it's awfully hard to read if your lines are longer than 75 or so chars. Also your paragraphs might want an empty line in front ... and the quotations an indention. There is some neo-nazi activism, true, but not more than there is KKK activism in the US. It's just that they tend to make news much easier than other people. Neo-nazis are also in a lot of other countries (including the US). There is a voting potential of about 5-7% for the nationalist parties which seldom if ever reach 5% (meaning, they will not be in the parliament. Sometimes they get into a state parliament, though.) On the other hand, there is the same amount of votes for the PDS (ex-SED, the leading party of ex-East Germany), but they have strong local support in ex-East Germany, racking up 25-33% of the votes in state parliaments. (ex-East Germany has about 1/5 of the population of Germany.) Compare that with Italy during the cold war, where you had a steady 25% of the *whole* population voting communist. > He is described as having a driving > ambition to be the man to pull Germany out of the ruins and unite it as > a nation again. Look at "Armies of the Night" how a probable power distribution would be, or at "The Ruins of Warsaw". > There is also an American who chooses to remain behind, a major Charles > F. Kane, who has taken over the "VAK Project" (an abandoned nuclear power > station in Kahl-Am-Main) and plans on becoming the ruler of southern > Germany with control over an operating nuke plant. Operating a nuclear plant means a lot of specialists and knowledge and tons of electrical power to get the thing running at all. (A modern coal power station eats about 10% of it's power for operating itself. Our nuclear power stations range around 700-900 MegaWatt. Per block.) And one bad mistake is all you need for a Three-Mile-Island or a Chernobyl(sp) to happen. (And where do you get the nuclear material from? I doubt it would still be in place: it's too valuable and dangerous.) > Lastly, there is the Freibroderbund. This band could easily be corrupted by a charismatic member > climbing up the ranks. Sure, there are (and always will be) people hating foreigners/blacks/whites/indians/chinese/gays/whatever. Some of them are radicals, some of them will turn terrorist or partisan (depending on your viewpoint). Some will bomb buildings using vans full of explosive, others will torture and leave dying a person who they thought made sexual advances at them. Still others will kidnap politicians and industrial leaders (and leave them dead), burn houses or throw stones. Some of them will assassinate presidents and charismatic leaders (no matter how peaceful they are). Some will call for a holy war against a person, an idea, some ethnic group or another country. However, to gain real power you will need something more. You need support from the masses and the influential groups, uniting them against a common 'enemy' (guess who did it this way), or you need the power to force the masses into submission (still you need an army or 100[1] to do that, and it did not work for long or without problems yet ...) [1] and no opposing army which could fight you, still, look at the slave risings ... > Peter Vieth Wrote: > > The > > possibility of one person being able to unite all the different factions > > into one party/government/army would be damn hard, just as it would be > > hard to do here in the States. > Here I will disagree some. But I think that > the remaining people would just as soon keep their mouths shut and go > along with the dictator if he was supplying some semblance of order > and providing food to a starving population. You need more, much more, than a power plant to produce food. Sure, there will always be the ones who will bow down. But very much depends on the rest compared with the food. People in former East Germany did not have to starve, they were ensured work (unless they were 'criminals') and all the essentials (clothing, food, ...) was artificially held at very cheap prices. Remember that a lot of them risked limb and life by fleeing, remember many more risked shunning, humiliation and difficulties by asking to be allowed to leave, remember how they poured out the minute they could? > Couple that with a sense > of order and security and there would be no real resistance. Then there was a certain spring in Prague. People, armed with rocks (if at all), against tanks. Or the place of heavenly peace. Unarmed people being masacred by machine guns. Now, I guess, neither were fed badly nor were they in a place without order or security. > If he was > cunning enough to introduce his plans over a period of time then I think > he would have a good chance of establishing and holding a power base. But most should fall in the right hands (or be unusable). The 'no-goood-nicks' would then be hunted down if they made a nusiance of themselves. However, should the majority fall into the hands of malevolent people (and they'd have the infrastructure to come up with parts, ammo, lubricants and fuel) there would be a problem. The tail can be pulled off on a STR check (opposed, STR 3). However, the face hug cannot be broken once engaged. The embryo will be implanted in two hours. Attacks are: Claw, Claw, Bite and Tail. The Queen can paralyze like the warriors. It is also intelligent, 1d6+2. General Xenomorph Notes Acid Splash If an alien is hit during combat, the attackers may suffer damage from the acidic blood. The blood will eat through 25mm of steel in 5 seconds. For every successful attack, there is a corresponding spray. These are treated similar to shrapnel attacks from grenades. For example, a weapon is destroyed on an arm hit, helmet on a head shot, etc. Armor such as vests and helmets will be destroyed on the first combat turn. Helmets can be easily removed, thus ending damage, however armor requires an agility check to remove the damaged piece. Failure means that damage is figured normally while success negates further damage. If another character is assisting the success is automatic. Hit location is rolled separately for each hit. Duration is how many combat turns the character continues to sustain damage. For example, if a marine is in hand-to-hand combat with an alien and injures it, he would take 3d6 damage per hit for 3 combat rounds. Example: Cpl. Graham fires his M41a Pulse Rifle at a charging alien. The creature is 1m away when it is hit. Graham hits the creature three times. After he rolls his damage, the GM checks for acid damage. He rolls three attacks (14/8/11) and hits twice. He rolls for hit location and gets Right Arm and Chest. Graham immediately drops his weapon (right handed) and scrambles to remove his armor. He takes 4 dice of damage for the first round, but successfully removes his armor, negating any further damage. Exoskeleton blocks infrared heat. Will not register on infrared devices if the creature remains still. Once the creature moves, it will register as a moving "black" object on an infrared device. Heat seekers will not track or lock-on to an alien. Aliens hiding in a hive location are nearly undetectable. It is an Observation (IMP) to see one. All aliens take double damage from incendiary weapons. If an alien is killed by incendiary damage, it explodes, showering a 3 meter area with acid. Anyone within the radius is sprayed with burning acid. Resolve as indicated above, with one acid die for each damage die rolled. Due to the fire, duration is one round only. Senses: Xenomorphs do not see like humans do. Their primary sensing method is unknown, but it is not light reflection based like ours. Whatever method they employ, they can "see" equally well in light and dark conditions. Range is similar to the human limits. They have been observed reacting to auditory stimuli and their hearing is roughly equivalent to a human's. Other senses, touch taste, smell, are unknown. It is great if you would put a page to use for this - but it would also be great if you could make some sort of form, so that one could put suggestions directly from the webpage. This would mean that you might get a few unsolicited hits from some braindead flooders, but it would also mean that people not on this list would be able to contribute. I will soon make something up in the categories: Starters Adventure ideas Campaign ideas (just suggestions for names) Over and out Sinus > >-----Original Message----- >From: Nis Mathiesen >To: twilight2000@MPGN.COM >Date: Wednesday, January 13, 1999 7:00 AM >Subject: Re: Campaign seetings and ideas..... > > >>Hiya! >> >>Well, I myself have been thinking about this subject. Well a database with regional "advisors" - sounds pretty interesting. I myself would like to contribute to this service. I am a Dane, and as you all know, Denmark is a neighbour country to Poland. I a T2K campaign the organized and un-nuked Denmark might be a sanctuary for players - but of course zealously guarded, with all borders closed (what government would like to have the land flooded with armed battleveterans from several major forces). In the T2K setting Denmark might be a more favorable place to seek shelter than other countries, e.g. Scweitzerland (not spelled correctly I guess, sorry) or France, because you only have to cross the Baltic (30 km at most) before you reach the southern shores of Denmark. Well, it was just a couple of ideas...
