Hiya! Well, I myself have been thinking about this subject. But what about making a web-page somewhere with adventure hooks, starters, campaign ideas and stuff like that? That would turn out to be a great source of inspiration to anyone interested in contemporary war-roleplaying. I have got a website where this could be hosted, but I have not dedicated anything to T2000 yet, so maybe a few of you with those greeeat homepages would like to make such a forum?! Nis L. Basically they man the rapier batteries around forward airfields, provide loads of people for the SAS and provide the Queens Colour Squadron (excellent drill display team). They have a similar role to mechanised infantry in defence. Israel has women on non-combat work such as training jobs but there is pressure to allow women to front-line positions in there as well (this from report I saw in EuroNEWS some time ago). Nordic countries have as a rule women in all positions. I seem to remember that Norway was first to do complete integration. In Finland the system is following: Army is compulsory for men (you can also choose unarmed service or some other alternative system) and voluntary for women. I have had some discussions with women who had been in Finnish Defence Forces (both who did it to end and those who didn't). Biggest reason to quit was the physical trouble (especially in mortars, sissi units and anti-tank jobs where everything is heavy and must be carried) but other than that there were no real problems in service. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jan 1999 10:26:48 -0000 From: "Mark Oliver" Subject: RAF Infantry Regiment >The RAF has an infantry regiment? What's it for? > >Scott Orr The RAF has 'infantry' to defend it's airbases, this is not the responsibility of the army. The group is known as the 'RAF Regiment' and is usually deployed around the airbase or on guard duty. The Regiment integrates with the anti-air defences of the base, for example Rapier units are deployed into the field with RAF Regiment units. I'm not too sure if the technicians manning the weapons are technically part of the Regiment but they are kitted out with similar equipment (camouflage, hard helmets, gas masks etc.). This means that if an airbase is taken out then the Regiment deployed in the surrounding area should normally survive but loose their base. This means that Regiment troopers serving with other military units should not be an uncommon site in the T2K world. I served in the military along side female soldiers in the Combat Engineers and found that most could not do the job. I beleive that women should serve in the military in combat roles but only if they can do the job. In Canada to enable a lot of women to serve in combat units they had to lower the physical standards to ensure that a good percentage would graduate basic training and their trades training. In my unit we did not have a women Combat Engineer for a long time and our unit was one of the best in Canada The other units that had three or four really suffered when it came time to do bridging. In Canada we have the Medium Girder Bridge which is built by hand and four people must carry four hundred pound bridge parts. I found that very few women and quite a few men could not perform this job tasking. I believe that everyone should be given an opportunity to enter any trade they wish but only if they can meet the physical requirements and not just for political reasons. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jan 1999 08:15:41 -0800 (PST) From: Josh Baumgartner Subject: Re: Hello.....is anyone there? I can provide background information on the area and what might survive/be targetted in a nuclear exchange. Information on open ground, bases, roads, bridges, ports, old castles, power stations etc. Imagine we can get a group of us from all over the world willing to help out on this. You as a GM could send players all over the place and still have a level background knowledge available that you have of your own home area. Backround Players are hired guns (MERC:2000) in one of the Chinas provinces, they are order to go another province to investigate odd military actions there. Actually, there has been major NBC weapon disaster and this go weard...I use Zombie idea what I got from one of the TW:2000 homepage (I dont remember whos it was). Major idea What if when players are on mission(on the field) and when they want to take radiocontact with HQ (to raport) I give my toy walkie-talkie to them and I go to the another room with other pair of walkie-talkie (I work in the toystore, and sometimes I get cheap toys). Then I gonna prepresent myself as a HQ, and we all gonna make this radiocontact in/as live. To simulate Chinas dialect of Enlish, I gonna order players use real English in radiocommunications (We are all Finish, remember?) and of course I self use this as well. With my bad English there must to be mis-understuning of orders and other confusions. I have been planned HQ´s to sent intelligence data, Weather informations, major enemy movements and so on. As meantime of this radio action, I have set reduced light in players room and CD-player to play soundtrack of Blood...(Computer game) Note, that I havent lead any Horror themes before so players aint know what is waiting for them... I have also considered working up the Paratwa assassins from the Chris Hinz books. As far as zombies go, theres a million ways to work them in, including: 1) New Military chemicals (from the movie "Return of the Living Dead") 2) A Contaminated asteroid or satellite irradiates the planet (from "Night of the Living Dead") 3) Various occult powers, including voodoo, Lovecraftian magic, witchcraft, etc. If the scenario works out, post it somewhere and let me know, Id like to see it. The web page is listed below. http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Bunker/5224/rpg/t2k/t2k.html If anyone wants to be on this page (and is willing to answer peoples requests) then please e-mail me with the following. 1) Name 2) E-Mail Address 3) Web Site (if available) 4) Country 5) Areas within that country that you can help out with. My address is marko@syslogic.com For those that missed the original posting I'll explain it again. I've noticed that the people on this list come from quite a wide area. T2K is set in the real world. I know that I could run a well researched game in the area that I live (East London, Essex) but I want to start a campaign in Poland. I've been trying to find out about the area and couldn't find that much. I thought it would be great if I could talk to someone who lives in the area, this grew into an idea for a web page where I could collect people who anybody could talk to. As the campaign moves around Europe I can contact other volunteers and see what they can tell me. Interesting things like bridges, military bases, old forts etc. If someone else wants to set a game in London then I can help them out in return. Of course you could just make it all up, but isn't it better to know that what you're doing has some basis in truth. Besides knowing that there is an old castle near where your PCs are could spark an adventure idea in some GMs head. I am starting to get back into RPG's in general and am currently checking out all my old haunts so to speak, anyway i'll carry on lurking for a wee while :) EddieH *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jan 1999 13:02:28 -0500 From: "bootboy@niagara.com" Subject: RE: Campaign seetings and ideas..... - ------ =_NextPart_000_01BE4087.BAD5F7E0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Wolfgang Weisselberg wrote: > > If you're in Germany, I like the idea of another "Hitler" as soon as = the US * > pulls out (as in "Going Home").=20 I think that this possibility isn't as far fetched as it seems. Germany = in the early 90's is the scene of neo-nazi skinhead activity isn't it? = And desperate times do develop into desperate actions. The module "Going Home" has some possible choices of personalities in it = that could be readily adapted as this model. There is General Helmut J. = Korell, the commanding officer of the German IV Corps and the 10th = Panzer Division (in control of 63 AFV's and 9000 men in total, a force = that could become a real headache). He is described as having a driving = ambition to be the man to pull Germany out of the ruins and unite it as = a nation again. He could very easily start out as a patriot, then turn = into a despot as time and frustration mount. There is also an American who chooses to remain behind, a major Charles = F. Kane, who has taken over the "VAK Project" (an abandoned nuclear = power station in Kahl-Am-Main) and plans on becoming the ruler of = southern Germany with control over an operating nuke plant. Lastly, there is the Freibroderbund. This is a strongly patriotic German = partisan band that has the goal of expelling all foreigners from the = German soil. This band could easily be corrupted by a charismatic member = climbing up the ranks. =20 Peter Vieth Wrote: I think realistically in such a scenario the minute a large body of troops (American, British, whomever) pulled out of a region you'd have an inital period of lawlessness, and followed by cantonments and a system not unlike what we've seen in ye olden days of feudal times. The possibility of one person being able to unite all the different factions into one party/government/army would be damn hard, just as it would be hard to do here in the States. =20 Here I will disagree some. I believe that an initial goal of total = control would be impossible to start with, but with control of a = strategic area (say a nuclear power plant) and with good possibilities = to rebuild before the other factions would give the dictator an = advantage. He could very well secure an area first, then expand as = resources allow. Perhaps? Too many divergent viewpoints, too many people more concerned with their own survival and saying the blazes with anyone else. Sprinkle in firearms and some of them would have the force to resist anyone coming around trying to press them into their cause... = Just my two cents T.R. The different viewpoints would cause friction I agree. But I think that = the remaining people would just as soon keep their mouths shut and go = along with the dictator if he was supplying some semblance of order and = providing food to a starving population. Couple that with a sense of = order and security and there would be no real resistance. If he was = cunning enough to introduce his plans over a period of time then I think = he would have a good chance of establishing and holding a power base. Someone wrote: Well the impression I got was that the Germany army was fairly organized = and they'd suddenly have a bunch of equipment. Here is another good point. With the pull out of the U.S. and all the = heavy equipment that is being left behind, chances are that some of that = equipment would fall into less than savory hands to be used for no good. - ------
