UK's Royal Ordnance developed the L26 Jericho ammo using a DU core. Fench too I'd imagine. Note: tungsten nickel iron sabot rounds does give similar or same level of penetration but doesn't pack the same pyro effects so torching a T-72 just isn't the same :P Also figure on Ivan's current fetish for laser guided 125 rounds for their D-81TM guns (aka Rapira) which while may not be cheaper than the radio guided AT-8 Songster/Kobra it certainly can be integrated a lot easier with "cheaper" tanks such as the 72, 62, and 55 although remember the best of Ivan's armor is in East Germany with the GSFG such as the T-80B/T-80BVs no doubt with second gen reactive armor, missile armament, and possibly thermal sights and with 1500 hp gas turbines and a weight of less than 50 metric tons they can acclerate as fast as or faster than the current gen of ueberpanzers. I've been watching the digest for a few weeks now and have been following the C7/C7A1 thread through the digest, so please forgive if this is late. I have used both weapons in this thread for many years now. The C7 is best described in the US Army as the M16A3 (which I believe is being adpoted in small numbers for the Special Forces, SEALs, units like that.) The C7A1 is best described in the US Army as the M16A4 (which FN will begin production sometime on it). I believe it will be just like ours with what is best described as a weaver mounting base, but I believe it will be called the Pictanny Mounting Rail System (as on the M4A1), and I suppose a flipup rear sight. And if you are interested, the C8 is the M16A2 Carbine in use in the US Army. The C7 did startout with a few problems, but then again what M16 type of weapon didn't? The plastic magazines have been the biggest problem for years. The plastic is to weak to contain a full magazine after a few months (6 to 8) of continuous use. Sometimes when you insert the magazine, the magazine lets go and ejects about 4 or 5 rounds into the magazine housing. The plastic magazines would also get extremely brittle in the extreme cold up here, and its not unheard of to have magazines break into pieces in the weapon during live firing or fire and movement. These are now being supplemented with all metal magazines of US design. The sights of the C7/C7A1 started out with this front post sight that was this square post that blocked out the entire target past 300 meters, which is now been replaced by a slender post model that is a vast improvement. The rear sights on the C7 can best be described as M16/M16A1 leaf sight. Ours (and I guess yours) is of an L shape with a big open battle sight for 100 meters or less, and twilight hours, and a small peephole sight for 200+ meters. To adjust these you need the M16A1 front and rear sight adjusting tool. On the C7A1 the backup sight is an M16A2 type of adjustable rear sight, that is mounted when the ELCAN is removed from the weapon. Well I hope this helps out some. - ------------------ Gary. ggore@mail.transdata.ca http://www.transdata.ca/~ggore/morrow.htm *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Nov 1998 05:15:06 -0800 From: Ragnarok Subject: Re: twilight2000-digest V1998 #50 Every Marine knows his zero by heart. The cooks, too. Takes two seconds to adjust. That's why Marines generally can put 9 out of 10 rounds in a man's chest at 300 yards open sights. Leastwise, every Marine I ever shot with. So, perhaps such a flip-sight should add to ACCURACY (maybe a 1), but I think fully adjustable sights SHOULD give more. It is possible that the M16A1 was the recipient of the Canadian improvements, thus born the M16A2, but I do not know. Anyone? - -Jeremy M. Use 1/2 max range for max height (rough rule of thumb). Speed is metres for the first 5 second turn. On the second turn the speed is the rest of the range. For example the Stinger travels 3700m during the first turn, then 1800m on the second, for a total of 5500m. Guidance types: IR1 1st Generation Infrared 'Heat seeker' Against an aircraft must be launched in the rear 30 degrees either side of the centreline Can be launched at any angle against a helicopter IR2 Rear 180 degrees aircraft, any angle helo IR3 No restrictions IIR Ignores all flare decoys (no one level penalty as other IR types) and early IR jammers LBR 'Laser Beam Rider' Guides by following the laser beam. Can not be guided by any laser, except on the launcher Cmd 'Command' Follows operater commands All IR and IIR are 'fire and forget', that is they require no operator imput after launch. They seek the target independently. LBR and command must be guided to the target by the operater. If the operater stops guiding the missile for any reason (ducks incoming fire, gets shot, etc), it misses. Accuracy - -1 level for targets at greater than 1/2 range to reflect less energy after the motor burns out. +1 level if target does not evade (airliner, missile not spotted) - -1 level if flares used, early IR jammers - -2 levels if advanced IR jammers used (UK and USA SOF transports). Actually laser that jams all missile seekers. Not available in Twilight:2000 at all. Merc:2000 uses in UK/US SOF transports, fighters/bombers and attack helicopters. Available from around 2000 or so. Notes: Late 90s technogy are 'black flares' for US. They are not visible to the naked eye. Year is when the missile was introduced (1) Estimated accuracy late 90s is Easy, reflecting upgrades. Weight is missile/launcher (sit-down/stand) (2) Used by Pakistan (3) Expected in service 1999 (4) Update available for refitting SA-7b, none in service yet (5) Yes, the SA-16 is better than the SA-18. NATO identified the missiles in the wrong sequence. The SA-18 entered service before the SA-16 (6) The accuracy differences in the Stinger family are hard to represent at this scale, hence the identical stats for different models (7) In service 1998 (8) In service 2005 (9) Starburst is Javelin with upgraded motor and new guidance (10) Rumoured is a sound activated version. This would be placed by Spetsnaz teams on the departure end of the rumway. It is left to its own devices (?timer) and activates by sound. In game effects all Russsian MANPAD may be used as anti-aircraft 'mines'. Accuracy drops one level in this mode. (11) RBS70 is not a 'gripstock'. It is operated off a stand with a seat for the operater. Each missile weights 24kg, the laser sight 36kg, the stand 24 kg. Normally operated from a vehicle, the loads can be man packed. I haven't got a lot of the weights as yet. Most can have a thermal imaging night sight added (at least the Stinger, all UK, RBS70, Mistral) All guided weapons should have a dud rate. Western stuff is 5%, Eastern stuff 25%. Shelf life is 10 years. Any missile over this is 5-25% (West) and 25-50% (East) Availabilty is at referee's discretion. However the Chinese export to anybody. Stingers were supplied to Afghan freedom fighters in the 80s and have since got into terrorist hands. Iran also has some. The UK Starstreak is not available for export. Just to get it rolling, I was a member of a group playing in the lower US, made up of a bunch of hicks and a few military types. I was a clued in hick. Well, not so clued in to tell the truth. We snagged a hafla a few games back from a serviceman who returned to the states. (We assumed going home happened) I said at the time I stuck it on my belt and forgot about it. The GM listed it on his list and we played on. Any way, one day we was chasing some bandits around and they went into a old warehouse. We gave chase and fought our way through. The head baddude jumped into a room and I followed, attmepting to switch mags. GM said if I want to get the first shot off, I'd have to grab something off of my belt. I thought fine, I have sig220, I'll shot him with that. I didn't pay atention to the Gas labels on the door saying LIQOX.. He said roll a d10, I did, and he said, Oh no.... Yep, I shot off a halfla into a 10000 pounds of Liquid Oxygen. Needless to say that was the last adventure for that group. If there is interest for it i think i can set up an acount on an ftp server here in europe (with plenty of bandwith) witch we can use for sharing files. As you may (or may not) recall I was working with the recoil data to try and make some sense of it. I got info from everyone on the grain weights of the ammo, but I have a question. I have the Russian 5.45x39 cartridge listed as 123 grain. Is this correct? If it is, the AK74 has only slightly less recoil than an FN-FAL, and more than a H&K G3. Is this data correct? Can someone help me out on this? Thanks in advance, dragon@euronet.nl "...to the everlasting glory of the infantry, shines the name, shines the name, of Rodger Young..." Also, the bolt to bolt carrier weight ratio causes it to be even more reliable than the AK 47 - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Saturday, November 14, 1998 7:19 PM Subject: Recoil once more >Hi everyone, > >I have another question on the recoil thing.
