Webb) Subject: TANTALUS Hello to all, I have been on the TW2000 mailing list for several weeks now and have a question concerning the mailing list's origin. Is this mailing list and subsequent list admin run by Tantalus? The reason I ask is because a friend of mine worked at Tantalus as an intern and told me that they had bought the rights to TW2000 and Dark Conspiracy. Several people in a related news group had posted questions concerning the current status of TW2000 and I replied explaining that Tantalus owned the rights and based on the fact that they were a computer game design shop it was unlikely that TW2000 would ever be reprinted. Not to mention the fact that GDW had all but let the game fizzle out due to tepid sales. So if Tantalus does in fact own the rights to TW2000 (and is reading this) perhaps someone could reply as to what plans if any there are for TW2000. Also, What ever became of Thomas F. Mulkey? -Best, Chris Webb P.S. Hello JOHN EWING! They did sort of release their plans awhile back, they don't have any plans to do any T:2000 material as they view the RPG market as stale...and they believe the gaming market has to take advantage of trends in society to be most effective. Well, even if they are lurking they have never replied to any questions asked. At least not that I can remember. I even offered to talk to them about buying the rights to M2K/T2K. But never recieved so much as a No Thanks, Kiss Off, nothing. I only want the Roleplaying parts, but would take all. They can have the software rights, I'm not really interested in them. But, would take them if need be. The rumor, JUST RUMOR, I heard was that these were the only two of GDW's product lines that were in the black. I was hoping that Tantalus was going to at least finish the products that were in the works for these lines and release them. A small return on an investment is better than no return. Isn't it??? I mean profit is profit. No, profit is not profit anymore...companies expect a big return on their investment...big enough to cover their expenses for the project and a lot more to spread around as well... Well its just as I had feared. I can't blame Tantalus for holding off on TW2000. A walk through the once prospering local game shop last week was an eye opener. It had been about two years since I browsed their aisles. Where once stood row after row of cool RPG's there are now cards and comics. Sorry but paying bloated prices for Magic cards and yet another issue of Spawn doesnt exactly put pep in my step. I suppose where true profits are concerned the rpg market sucks, but to all us gamers its still a fun playground. -Best, Chris *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe twilight2000' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Oct 1998 14:54:59 -0600 From: Rogue09 Subject: Re: Caught in the tendrils of Tantalus C. Well if anyone knows differently post it here please...The info I was quoting from is several months old, but I doubt if they've suddenly decided to change their minds. They want someone else to come in and front them money for the prinitng rights for a 5 year stint or so. > > Well its just as I had feared. I can't blame Tantalus for holding off on > TW2000. Well where I'm at we have a HobbyTown USA so they do a pretty good job of keeping the shelves stocked but it's always the same material...lots of Palldium Rifts modules, lots of AD&D material, some ocassionally new FASA material and such. A lot of people are convinced that RPG's are dead with the revoltuion in the PC industry...after all who wants to role play when you can turn on the computer and pop in some CD-Rom game? Inquiries about publishing T2K should come to me (address FarFuture@AOL.com) and we can talk about the potential for acquiring a license to publish T2K. Heh, btw I did finally resolve that submarine thing. Two of the party members climbed on board while the rest threw grenades at the screws. One of them also drove a snowcat into the water, which landed on the port side prop (I gave it a 1 out of 10 chance of succeeding and rolled a 1). The sub was diving and starting to move when the two players ran into the engine room and started gunning down the techs. Then they ran into the control room, there was a brief struggle and they shot 3 more techs. The rest of the crew decided to escape through the two diving bell things the Typhoon has (http://navy-technology.com/projects). The players escaped through a hatch wearing those masks. However they kicked each other in their haste and both got mild cases of the bends (lucky for them they both have a CON of 9). The rest of the party took six of the techs with them but left the rest. They were going to sell them into slavery but instead used them to drive the icebreaker Arctika that the nearby settlement is supposed to give the PCs (ya know, on the last page of the module).
