We took the information from a USDA booklet on making gasahol, aimed at farmers who wanted to brew their own fuel. It was especially useful because it also discussed making methanol from crop stubble and methane gas from pig sh*t, and a discussion of how to convert engines to run on methane. It had blueprints and lots of photos, and (the GPO being what it is) is probaly still around. Of course their capacity will not be full, the crops are being used to feed and such. But if you go back and check the efficency (sp?) of the stills in T2000 you'll see that the larger the still gets, the more efficent the still becomes. So, I can see them having a disproportionate value in this situation. Craig Gulledge ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Apr 1998 10:15:59 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jeffrey P. In bivouac, the normal ration= cycle is A/C/A, or hot breakfest, C-ration/MRE lunch, and hot dinner. This= requires the mess section to cook twice daily, and keeping food fresh and= restocked presented logistics problems. The K ration is a pre-prepared meal= kit comsisting of sealed metal trays of entrees and side dishes designed to= feed multiple soldiers (SWAG-20 ) per tray. They are heated by boiling the= trays in water for a specific time. This system lessens mess personnel= staffing requirements and eases preparation. Menu includes lasagna,= scrambled eggs and ham, cheese grits, corn and sausage links in brine (= poodle peckers ). The K rations are supplemented with fresh bread and= salad.
