Re: Finns?...Where are the Finns? Re: Weapons Re: What happened in Austria and Italy during war ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 3 Jul 1997 10:06:05 -0400 From: Mitchell Schwartz Subject: WWII scenarios Chris asks: >Anyone ever convert Twilight to a WWII campaign? >If so I'd like to hear about it. Not a campaign, but I did create a scenario more as a one-off for a tournement. The characters were German paratroops that I built by hand, who were on a commando mission to seize the bones of Napoleon Buonaparte (which were, for the sake of plot, not returned to France in 1840, but still resting on St. Helena Islands in 1940). They are up against a British Infantry company who is not looking for them - - until they strike. (This is mostly ready for the web). Certainly, most of the tools exist: o Most small arms, machine guns, and mortars are available in the Infantry Weapons supplement. o A few sites on the net or various military sources can provide the make-up of squads and platoons for diffrent armed services. Certainly, WWII provides enough potential settings for a campaign using T2K as an engine! BTW, the timeline I wrote for the Cabinda war is available: http://world.std.com/~Ted7/cabinda.htm mitch Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing in the tempting place. -- Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) Official: Unofficial: mitch@intersys.com Ted7@world.std.com http://www.intersys.com http://world.std.com/~Ted7 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Jul 1997 13:53:10 -0400 From: Mitchell Schwartz Subject: Looking for Matti Matti Aistrich - Sorry for sending this to the list, but... I had 4 whole items from this list this mourning. > Anything else? > does somebody actually have a list of all challenge articles pertaining to > Twillight 2000 perhaps we could rate all of those, too. I believe that GDW printed a master index of all articles in a challenge, of course it would only cover the articles that were in the preceding issues, but it would be a start. > HELL maybe even Tantalus could scan them and put them on their FTP site for us to > download...... but why even bother, they don't care about us, right? fans > suck................................MUDs rule! Wow, just a little harsh, don't ya think. While it may appear that they have forgottten that T2K had a loyal following, give them some time to decide what to do. They have only had the rights for what 18 to 24 months. They are a computer game company, not a RPG company, aren't they? If so it is probably going to take some time for them to make a decission. I also am becoming concerned that they are not going to do anything with T2K, Merc2K. If and when they decide what to do, I'm sure they will post to this list. If that decission is to ignore the Product line, or junk it, I would like to make an offer to aquire them myself. I know I can't even begin to pay what I'm sure they paid but I would be willing to work out a deal to put together new Products and update old ones. Maybe something where I put the products together and they market them. Hi everyone, I recently purchased TW2000 and Merc:2000 and going to start as a GM in these. I have one question which I can't seem to find in Merc:2000. How much is reasonable to pay the characters for completing a typical mercenary mission? I know it's dependant of the kind/difficulty of the mission, but I really need a hint here. How much does your guys get? Do you have some kind of formula for calculating this? Could you describe these? Any possibility of scanning and uploading these for your American counterparts? thanks Orrin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 13:58:19 -0500 (EST) From: asjohnso@ecn.purdue.edu Subject: Re: Finns?...Where are the Finns? It does say somewhere in the book, that they get a standard $1000 up front, $300 a day plus expenses then another $1000 upon successful completion....per person! As for how I do it........mission payment is based on risk and the capabilities and renown of the team. Better Mercs will be paid higher, obviously.............. I say the use of a fixed sum is kinda lame and the role-playing aspect of the negotiations are important elements of the game and mission............ I will say this, however. Last night while re-reading some of the less interesting parts of MERC2000, I stumbled across a line that just grated on my nerves, it said that elements of platoon size engaging in combat is beyond the scope of the game.......... I think the key phrase was, "beyond the scope of this game"....... well, make it part of the scope! anyway, now that's neither here nor there..... These sections will answer your question, I think, if your going by the book. If, however, your not going by the book than make it up, its your world.
