First, for Twilight... Although I can think of several, I think I'll start with something simple. How did others handle the coming Drought (sp) in their Twilight game. In the first game I was a player in, our GM ran it pretty much as a global condition and it weighed a little too heavily in our campaign. It eventually came to dominate scenario story lines. While I thought it added a nice destabilizing element in the game, I felt it began to overrun other stories and became too dominant a theme. I thought the primary focus should be around what the players could do to make their own little part of the world different, for better or worse, depending on the players. The global climate change seemed to be pushing too much into a set series of stories. When I ran my first Twilight campaign, I didn't really touch on global climate changes as a major issue, and made them much milder. What I want to know, without the freaking runaround, is: Does Tantalus intend to produce RPG material for the games it bought? Plain and simple, no if's an's or but's. The generic "we are working on something, but can't say what it is" is becoming a little TOO annoying........IMHO My suggestion is this: if you are planning on producing more stuff for either game (I guess 2300AD included) I would do it soon, before fans and GMs alike say, "to hell with this system, I'll convert it to something else." (which is being done now by a few individuals I know) People will forget the systems, and remember how first TSR screwed over their favorite systems by bringing the lawsuit that led to GDW's downfall, and then by Tantalus which bought the rights for the systems to make MUD games? question: How does Tantalus, Inc. makes $ to keep producing software? Do you charge people to play the MUD games, since you "..don't make games that take up retail shelf space.."? >First, for Twilight... >Although I can think of several, I think I'll start with something >simple. How about the >rest of you? well, I never really incorporated a drought into my games as a player or GM, but now that I think about it, it seems a reasonably good idea................... As far as global actions: It seemed a group of PCs I was the "leader" of for 2 real years got to the point where nothing could phase them. Going on the mechanics of the game, one PC even took a 30mm autocannon round in the back, and lived! My Character was shot at by T-72s and escaped, barely, to flee and fight another day............ As the PCs gained power and reputation, it became increasingly difficult for the Gm to find us challenges.....Basically it was : (bad guys masquerading as good guys) which made us kill anyone we even had a minor suspiscion about. or (throw more bad guys at us) which is nice, but a MArk-19 w/ HVHE rounds is brutal if you get your platoon cought in the open. as we overcame these problems, we were brought into the Big Picture of global conflicts and policy making.......I think My guy started as a Lt. Colonel and ended up as a Brigadeer General (which with the amount of heroics most t2k characters exhibit, isn't too unrealistic............) My best memories from playing the game are from Krakow and Vistula (although Vistula is in many ways pretty straight-forward: the river as a setting of course limits things somewhat, but there could have been a bit more intrigue. Then again, in many ways I guess it was just a way of getting the characters from Krakow to Warsaw). This choice is of course also largely due to a good GM (hello Jysky!) and the interest towards the game during those early days. As a GM I found the Gateway to the Spanish Main quite interesting. - --------------------------------------------- : Perfect is : Matti M. When your in uniform, you get the military courtesy due you. Yup. Where each division has a Commanding General, each state will probably have a general officer over the Reserve or Guard Units for that State (one for the Reserve and one for the Guard, and one probably over both of those generals). As usual, rank regardless of brach (ie. Navy, Air Force, Marines, Army or duty (Active, Reserve, National Guard , or Individual Ready Reserve [NG and IRR are Air Force and Army only]), is followed due to military ettiquette and laws. Also, many Reserve and National Guard units supplement active units stationed in that State. For example, the 10th Mountain Division has 2 Infantry Brigades stationed on post, 1 Infantry Brigade in Alaska, and another National Guard Infantry Brigade (also called a round-out brigade) that comprise the whole 10th MTN DIV. Should the US go to war, the Division would have 4 infantry brigades at it's disposal plus all the support units that go with them (total of 6000-7200 infantrymen plus 18000-21600 support personnel, for a total of 24000-28800 troops). Aren't they both a type of citizen-soldier? Yes the are "citizen soldiers" but the difference lies in their mission. The National Guard is under the command of the Governer of the state they are assigned to, and as such are generally only called up in times of disasters, Hurricanes, floods, riots, etc. But they can be "federalized" by the President of the US for deployment into various theatres of operations. The NG has infantry and armor brigades, and tends to be more combat arms oriented than the reserves. NG units tend to be better equiped than the reservists because the Governers have specifc budgets for them, the reserves, however, have to take the leftovers from the federal defense budget. The reserves are under the direct authority of the reserve Command system, which in turn answers to the president, they are federal troops. The bulk of the reserves constitutes Combat support and service support roles, mainly, with occasional combat arms. The Special Forces part timers are in the reserve system rather than the NG because they have a specific mission that some governers might exploit.... Reservists were called up rarely for service before the Persian Gulf War, but since then they've been in almost every foreign mission or operation since. The military isn't big enough for them to not be used anymore. Also individual reservists can sometimes apply for federal service voluntarily (to say, go to Haiti for the operation there), and many get to go on extended tours. >Are there any General or Flag officers among the Guards and the >Reservists? Do they have same authority as regular Generals/Admirals? Yes there are generals. They have authority over the various commands they are put in charge of. The individual units, though, will get assigned to other units during times of crisis, so that they are effectively taken from the reserve system and made part of the new unit, with all the benefits and penalties that may apply. The above is for the Army only, I wouldn't want to guess on the other branches, since I have no experience with them. While we're on the talk of >modules, what was everyone's favorite? I had to give that some thought. I liked a lot of them. I think I prefer the way Chris answered this one, one to run and one to play. To run, Gateway to the Spanish Main. Loved the source material. I ran a huge campaign off what was provided. The captain of the Constitution proved a perfect foil to the mega-ego player in my campaign at the time. Kept him in line. It was a great get-PC's-away-from-their- vehciles adventure. I found that my players were a bit shy about getting out of their armored shells. This module made it a necessity. It was refreshing to see them really get into the situation and THINK, instead of letting their autocannons think for them. After this module, they wer never quite so reserved about getting out and dealing with the natives. To play, Free City of Krakow. Twilight was my first exposure to non-TSR games and it was relatively new. This was the only module out at the time, and our GM ran it perfectly. I liked the intrigue, the helicopter...there were only a dozen ways to incorporate that into our plans...the characters like Hallecki and Dowodca. It was Casablanca:2000 Rob. Back when this game started, there was advertised in Challenge a couple of fanzines for the game. I was wondering if anyone had any info on these fanzines. I think one was called Dawn:2000. I need more playing info since I have limited time to develop modules myself being a graduate student.
