PA-48 Enforcer

The Enforcer is a turboprop-powered light close-support/ground-attack
aircraft built by Piper Aircraft Corp. Lakeland, Florida. It is based
on the well-known North American P-51 of WW II fame. By direction of
Congress, the U.S. Air Force evaluated the aircraft, beginning in 1983.
Testing was conducted in 1984 and the Air Force decided not to order the
Enforcer. That would change, in 1997 the USAF ordered 120 PA-48's to be
send to friendly nations of the USA. The aircraft stayed in USA until
1999 when they instead was send to Europe. The aircraft is often armed
with 2 GE GAU pods, Mk-82 Snakeeyes, CBU's, 2"75 inch rockets.
